DESCRIPTION:2014 Aging Summit: Creating a Safe and Caring Community\n\n\n\nBoard of Supervisors Chairwoman Dianne Jacob and Supervisor Greg Cox are hosting the "Aging Summit\," coordinated by Aging & Independence Services (AIS)\, with the goal of bringing forward relevant and timely topics in the field of aging.\n\n\n\nThe theme this year   "Creating a Safe and Caring Community" -- embraces aspects of safety\, as well as concerns of caregivers.\n\n\n\nThursday\, June 12\, 2014\n\n\n\nTime: 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM\n\n\n\nLocation: Town & Country Convention Center\n\n500 Hotel Circle North\n\nSan Diego 92108\n\n\n\nThis event is FREE.\n\n\n\nWe plan to present the focus of "safety" broadly\, including such issues as:\n\n\n	Financial abuse prevention (scams\, fraud)\n	Elder abuse prevention (physical\, emotional\, neglect)\n	Disaster preparedness\n	Fall prevention\n	Self-defense training\n	Cyber security\n	How technology can help keep people safe\n	General home safeguards (smoke detectors\, etc.)\n	Suicide prevention\n\nOur keynote speaker\, author and journalist Gail Sheehy\, will address challenges caregivers face. She cared for her ill husband for several years\, then wrote "Passages for Caregivers."
