There are children within La Mesa that are identified by La Mesa Community Welfare and several La Mesa elementary schools to be in need. The driving force behind this project is Maxine Lynch and the La Mesa City Employees Association. "This group have been making such a difference within La Mesa and when the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce was asked to be a part of this endeavor\," stated Mary England\, President & CEO\, "we readily agreed." "Last year with the financial support of local philanthropist Jerry Lester we were able to purchase: 35 pairs of shoes\, 54 shirts\, 200 pairs of underwear\, 170 pairs of socks and 20 fleece jackets. This year the Chamber hopes to increase the support to local elementary school children within the La Mesa Spring Valley School District by including members of the business community and the public\," England added.\n\n \n\nThis year the Chamber is reaching out to members of the community that may also have a passion for helping children during the holidays and offering an opportunity to join in this worthwhile activity. Those that wish to donate NEW items of clothing\, socks\, t-shirts\, shoes\, underwear and other items may purchase them and drop them off at the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce office\, 8080 La Mesa Boulevard\, Suite 212 in La Mesa on Monday\, Wednesday or Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The sizes for these children are: small 4-6\, medium 7-10 and large 12-14. Shoe sizes are from 12 -6. The deadline to receive these items so they may be assembled and wrapped is Monday\, November 28th.
