These are just some of the activities and topics that will be featured at the City of La Mesa's sixth annual "Sustain La Mesa" Environmental Festival Saturday\, September 7. This free event is presented by the La Mesa Environmental Sustainability Commission and takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Harry Griffen Park\, 9550 Milden Street\, La Mesa.\n\n \n\n This year's theme is "Bringing Green to the Table." The theme highlights that the words "La Mesa" translates into "The Table" in Spanish. During the festival\, participants can listen to live music and expert speakers throughout the day. The festival finale butterfly release will give everyone a chance to experience the grace and beauty of these delicate creatures. Plan to spend the day and enjoy the beauty of the park\, its trees\, and amphitheater. Attendees can explore the interactive booths and exhibits\, including topics such as energy and transportation\, horticulture and habitat\, water\, recycling\, and a kid's zone. Innovative technologies\, including the newest electric cars and the latest in sustainable building materials will be on display. An EDCO recycling zone for hard to recycle materials and the County Office of Education's Splash Science Mobile Lab will also be featured. Family entertainment will be provided throughout the day with face painting by the San Diego Clown Conspiracy and environmental crafts. There may be a hummingbird or hawk to see\, too.\n\n \n\n The winners of the "Our Planet\, Our Home" K-12 Environmental Literacy & Art Contest will be announced and their entries will be displayed at the festival.
