About the California State Board of Equalization (BOE):
The Board of Equalization collects California state sales and use tax, as well as fuel, alcohol, and tobacco taxes and fees that provide revenue for state government and essential funding for counties, cities, and special districts. You must obtain a seller’s permit if you are engaged in business in California and intend to sell or lease tangible personal property that would ordinarily be subject to sales tax if sold at retail. Seller’s permits are now available online through the eReg program available at: http://www.boe.ca.gov/elecsrv/ereg/index.html.
